Black Friday for Charities: How to Win More Online Sales in 2026

Purple Listing Monster monster holding a phone beside tags reading Funds a cause and Pre-loved, with the title Black Friday for charities, eBay, Vinted and Depop, 27 to 30 Nov 2026

Black Friday is a great opportunity for charities selling online, but you don't need big discounts or complicated promotions to make the most of it.

The key is to keep things simple. Get your best gift-worthy donations listed by Friday 20 November, plan a small promotion across eBay, Vinted and Depop for Black Friday (27 November) through to Cyber Monday (30 November), and remind shoppers that every purchase supports a good cause.

Unlike big retailers, charities have something extra to offer: great value with a purpose. In 2025, 68% of UK shoppers questioned the genuine value of Black Friday deals. For shoppers looking for something more meaningful, a unique second-hand gift that supports a charity could be just what they're after.

In this guide, we'll cover the key dates to remember, which donated items to prioritise, how to approach Black Friday promotions across different marketplaces and simple ways to get your listings noticed, without having to slash your prices.

Black Friday 2026: key dates for charities

Black Friday timeline for charities: set aside donations 30 Oct, eBay sale cut-off 13 Nov, newsletter tease 16 Nov, all stock live 20 Nov, Black Friday sale live 27 Nov, Cyber Monday 30 Nov

Black Friday weekend runs from Friday 27 November to Cyber Monday, 30 November 2026. Treat it as one four-day online sale and work back from it:

  • Friday 30 October (4 weeks out): Start setting aside quality, gift-ready donations for listing.
  • Friday 13 November (2 weeks out): Last day to list or edit items you want in an eBay Sale Event. eBay requires 14 days at the pre-sale price, with no edits, before a sale starts.
  • Monday 16 November: Send an eBay Shop newsletter teasing your Black Friday sale.
  • Friday 20 November (1 week out): All Black Friday stock live online.
  • Friday 27 November: Black Friday. Your sale goes live.
  • Monday 30 November: Cyber Monday, the final day of your sale.

eBay only lets each buyer receive one Shop newsletter every two weeks, so make your 16 November tease count. Include the sale dates, the offer and what every purchase funds.

Which donations to list for Black Friday

Not every donation is worth listing. Each item has to justify the time it takes to photograph, list, store and post. Prioritise:

  • Branded items. Buyers search by brand name first.
  • Boxed, sealed or new-with-tags items. These read as gifts.
  • Vintage and collectables. One-off pieces find their buyer faster online, where people search for them by name.
  • Items that are easy to post. Avoid bulky or fragile items in the busiest shipping weeks.

November is a big month for online sales, with six of eBay UK's top 10 best-selling categories seeing peak demand during the month.

According to eBay UK Terapeak sales data, here's what to look out for, including how much demand increases above average and typical selling prices:

  • Gift sets: +160% | £16–£19
  • Dehumidifiers: +103% | £37–£43
  • Wool coats: +100% | £47–£55
  • Jumpers & cardigans: +87% | £15–£18
  • Cashmere jumpers: +85% | £30–£35
  • Leather boots: +60% | £37–£43

Bar chart of 6 eBay UK categories that peak in November, from the 10 best-selling categories in November 2025: gift sets +160%, dehumidifiers +103%, wool coats +100%, jumpers and cardigans +87%, cashmere jumpers +85%, leather boots +60%

How deep should charities discount on Black Friday?

Charities do not need deep discounts. Donated stock is already priced well below new, and your buyers care about the cause.

Keep the offer simple and modest:

  • 20% off everything, or
  • Spend £30, save 10%, or
  • Bundle discounts on multiple items.

Use the weekend to move listings that have sat for 30+ days, rather than discounting fresh, high-value donations. A good way to judge it is revenue per listing: price × likelihood of selling. An item at £20 with a 40% chance of selling earns £8 per listing. At £16 with a 70% chance, it earns £11.20. That is more money for the cause and less stock taking up space.

Revenue per listing comparison: full price £20 at 40% chance of selling earns £8.00, 20% off at £16 with 70% chance earns £11.20, a 40% increase

How to set up a Black Friday sale on eBay, Vinted and Depop

eBay sale event for charities

eBay's Sale Event + Markdown tool adds a strikethrough price and sale badge to your listings.

  1. Check eligibility. Listings must have been live for 14+ days with no edits to price, postage, title or description.
  2. Create the sale. Seller Hub → Marketing → Discounts → Create → Sale event + markdown.
  3. Set the discount as a percentage or amount off per item.
  4. Pick the items individually, or by category, price or condition.
  5. Name and schedule it. For example "Black Friday: 20% off, every purchase funds [cause]", running Friday 00:01 to Monday 23:59.

An item can only be in one sale at a time, and after 14 days in a sale it must sit out for 14 days. Full rules are in eBay's Sale Event + Markdown guide.

Vinted

Vinted has no sale tool, so you run the sale manually.

  1. Turn on bundle discounts for 2, 3 and 5+ items.
  2. Drop prices on favourited items. Followers and members who favourited get an alert. Cut by 10% or more.
  3. Label the sale in your bio and the first line of item descriptions.
  4. Reset everything once the sale ends on Monday night.

Depop

  1. Discount: My Depop → Bulk actions → Discount, from Friday to Monday.
  2. Send offers to likers on gift items.
  3. Remove the discount when the sale ends. Depop discounts have no end date.

How to promote your charity's Black Friday sale online

Your biggest advantage is the story. Make it specific.

  • Show the impact. "Your £10 funds…" with a real figure from your charity.
  • Post a "Why buy new?" carousel comparing a new gift with a second-hand one.
  • Add "Black Friday: every purchase funds [cause]" to your eBay Shop banner and marketplace bios.
  • Email your supporter list with direct links to your charity's eBay, Vinted and Depop listings.
  • Share your marketplace links on your charity's website and social channels.
  • Speak to buyers who are wary of Black Friday. Some shoppers now push back on Black Friday, and the sustainability-led "Green Friday" has grown as an alternative. A line in your social posts and emails on why buying second-hand from a charity is the better deal reaches them without changing your sale name. The appetite is there: 27% of UK adults said they would boycott Black Friday, and 70% said it promotes overconsumption.

Cyber Monday: the final day of your Black Friday sale

Cyber Monday (30 November) is the last day of your sale, not a separate event. Use it to convert the buyers who browsed over the weekend:

  • Send final-day offers to watchers and likers on Monday morning.
  • Post "last day" messages on social and in your eBay Shop banner.
  • Keep listing. Fresh listings catch late shoppers.
  • End the sale on time at 23:59, so buyers do not expect discounts to run on.

After the weekend, batch your packing so orders go out on time, and review which items and offers worked. Use that to plan next year's Black Friday.

FAQs

Do charities do Black Friday sales?

Yes, many charities selling online now run Black Friday sales. The most effective approach is a sale across eBay, Vinted and Depop from Black Friday to Cyber Monday, with a modest discount such as 20% off. Lead with the cause the sale funds, not price alone.

When is Black Friday 2026?

Black Friday 2026 is on Friday 27 November, and Cyber Monday follows on Monday 30 November. Charities should treat the four days as one online sale. Have donated stock listed by Friday 20 November, and by Friday 13 November for anything going into an eBay Sale Event.

Should charities discount donated items on Black Friday?

Only modestly. Donated stock is already priced well below new, and buyers care about the cause. A simple offer such as 20% off or "spend £30, save 10%" is usually enough. Focus discounts on listings that have sat for 30+ days, and keep high-value, fresh donations at full price.

Can charities sell on eBay without paying fees?

Registered charities selling directly through eBay for Charity receive a 100% credit on basic insertion and final value fees. Charities are vetted by PayPal Giving Fund before they can take part, so register as early as possible. The credit makes every Black Friday sale worth more to your cause.

What sells best for charities on Black Friday?

Gift-ready donations sell best: branded, boxed, new-with-tags, vintage and collectable items. On eBay UK, advent calendars (+300%), karaoke players (+245%), gift sets (+180%) and home gym equipment (+180%) trend hardest in November, according to Listing Monster's 2026 Sourcing Calendar. Prioritise items that are easy to post.
