Black Friday Tips for Resellers UK: The 2026 Playbook

Written by India Neckel | Oct 21, 2026, 11:26:13 AM

The best Black Friday tips for resellers in the UK come down to timing and maths. Get gift-ready stock live by Friday 13 November so it qualifies for an eBay sale, run one simple offer from Friday 27 to Monday 30 November across eBay, Vinted and Depop, and only discount items where the extra sales beat the lower price.

Black Friday is the busiest online shopping day of the year in the UK. In 2025, UK shoppers spent £1.16bn online on Black Friday alone and £3.8bn across Cyber Weekend, according to Adobe's UK online retail data. Second-hand sellers get a slice of that, but only if stock is live, priced right and easy to find before the rush starts.

This guide covers the dates that matter, what to list, how to set up a sale on each marketplace, and how to protect your profit per hour over the weekend.

Black Friday 2026: the key dates for UK resellers

Black Friday weekend runs from Friday 27 November to Cyber Monday, 30 November 2026. Treat it as one four-day sale window, not one day.

Work back from that:

  • Friday 30 October (4 weeks out): Start setting aside gift-ready stock. Boxed, branded, unused and vintage pieces.
  • Friday 13 November (2 weeks out): Last day to list or edit anything you want in an eBay Sale Event. eBay requires items to sit at the pre-sale price, unedited, for 14 days before a sale starts.
  • Friday 20 November (1 week out): Everything else live on Vinted and Depop. Start teasing your sale.
  • Friday 27 November: Black Friday. Your sale goes live. List new stock every day to stay near the top of search.
  • Sunday 29 November: Send offers to likers on Depop, when offers are most likely to be accepted.
  • Monday 30 November: Cyber Monday, the final day of your sale.

The 13 November date catches most resellers out. If you tweak a title or price after that, eBay will not let the item into your Black Friday sale.

Why Black Friday matters for second-hand sellers

Black Friday used to be about new stock from big retailers. That is changing, and it works in resellers' favour.

  • Buyers are already on marketplaces. On Black Friday 2025, card transactions were 62% higher than an average day, the busiest day of the year so far, according to Barclays data reported by the Express & Star.
  • Pre-loved is mainstream in the UK. 46% of UK consumers buy pre-loved items at least once a month, the highest of any market eBay surveyed in its 2025 Recommerce Report.
  • Shoppers are sceptical of retail deals. 68% of UK shoppers doubt the real value of Black Friday offers (Barclays). A branded item at a second-hand price is an easy sell against a "20% off RRP" banner.
  • Mobile dominates. 61.5% of UK online spend over the 2025 peak came from phones (Adobe). That means your lead photo and the first few words of your title do most of the selling.

Black Friday also lands at the start of the Christmas gifting window. Every sale that weekend is cash you can reinvest in stock for December.

Should you discount for Black Friday? Do the maths first

A discount is only worth it if the extra sales outweigh the lower price. The cleanest way to check this is revenue per listing, a metric from the Reseller Handbook:

Revenue per listing = average selling price × sell-through rate

Sell-through rate is the percentage of your listings that sell within a set period, such as 30 days.

Here is a typical example. You have 50 items listed at £20 that have sat for over a month.

  • No discount: £20 × 40% chance of selling = £8 per listing
  • 20% off for the weekend: £16 × 70% chance of selling = £11.20 per listing

The discount wins by 40%. It also clears 15 more items from your stockroom, frees up cash for December sourcing and saves you relisting time later.

Now flip it. A fresh, in-demand item that would sell at full price this week anyway does not need 20% off. You would just be giving away margin.

A simple rule: discount stale and slow-moving stock hard, discount fresh stock lightly or not at all, and never discount items that already have strong watcher or favourite counts until the final day.

Remember the purchase price is a sunk cost. As vintage founder Patrick Cooper puts it in the Handbook: "I'd rather have £10 cash to reinvest than a £20 listing gathering dust."

What to list for Black Friday: November peak categories and gift-ready stock

Black Friday buyers are mostly gift shoppers. Prioritise stock that looks and feels like a present.

Six of eBay UK's 10 best-selling categories in November 2025 (by units sold, Terapeak data) hit their peak in November itself, right in time for Black Friday. The percentage shows how far demand peaks above each category's average, according to Listing Monster's 2026 Sourcing Calendar (eBay UK first-party data), alongside the typical selling price:

  1. Gift sets: +160%, selling for £16 to £19
  2. Dehumidifiers: +103% (October to November), £37 to £43
  3. Wool coats: +100%, £47 to £55
  4. Jumpers and cardigans: +87%, £15 to £18
  5. Cashmere jumpers: +85%, £30 to £35
  6. Leather boots: +60%, £37 to £43

Beyond category, look for these qualities when you pull stock for the weekend:

  • Boxed, sealed or new with tags. These feel giftable and sell faster.
  • Recognisable brands. Buyers searching on a phone type brand names first.
  • Easy to post. Big, fragile items are a dispatch headache during the busiest shipping weeks of the year.

Second-hand gifting is now normal. Research by Retail Economics for Vinted found 84% of UK shoppers were likely to include second-hand items in their Christmas gifts in 2024 (Retail Economics report).

How to set up an eBay Sale Event for Black Friday

eBay's Sale Event + Markdown tool puts a strikethrough price and a sale badge on your listings. It is the most visible way to run a Black Friday sale on eBay UK, but it has strict rules.

eBay sale event rules you need to know

  • You need an eBay Shop subscription. Private sellers without a Shop cannot use it.
  • Items must be live for 14+ days before the sale, with no changes to title, description, price or postage in that time. For a sale starting Friday 27 November, that means listed and untouched by Friday 13 November.
  • An item can only be in one sale at a time.
  • After 14 days in a sale, an item must sit out for 14 days before it can join another.

Full details are on eBay's Sale Event + Markdown guide.

Setting it up step by step

  1. Go to Seller Hub → Marketing → Discounts → Create → Sale event + markdown.
  2. Set the discount. A percentage or a fixed amount off per item. Free postage is optional.
  3. Pick items one by one, or by rules such as category, price range or condition.
  4. Name it simply, for example "Black Friday: 20% off", and schedule it from Friday 00:01 to Monday 23:59.
  5. Optionally, boost visibility with promoted listings. Raise your ad rate for the sale window only, then drop it back.

No eBay Shop? Use offers instead

Many solo resellers sell as private sellers on eBay, where selling fees were removed in almost all categories from October 2024. You cannot run a Sale Event, but you can still take part:

  • Send offers to watchers on Thursday 26 November, so they land as the weekend starts.
  • Drop prices on stale listings on Friday morning, and put back any you want at full price on Tuesday.
  • Add "Black Friday" to your profile or listings only where it reads naturally. Do not stuff it into titles, where buyers search by brand and product.

Vinted Black Friday: what works without an official sale

Vinted does not run an official Black Friday event, and there is no sale button. It is still where many UK buyers look for second-hand clothing, so it is worth running your own sale. Here is how to sell more on Vinted over the weekend:

  1. Turn on bundle discounts. Go to Profile → Settings → Bundle discounts and set tiers for 2, 3 and 5+ items. Gift shoppers often buy several pieces at once.
  2. Drop prices on favourited items. Members who have favourited an item, and your followers, get an alert when you lower the price. Cut by 10% or more so the drop is worth noticing.
  3. Send offers to members who favourited. A personal offer converts better than a general price cut.
  4. Label the sale yourself. Add "Black Friday: bundle and save, ends Monday" to your bio and the first line of item descriptions.
  5. Bump your hero items. Paid bumps or Wardrobe Spotlight on peak days push your best stock up the feed.
  6. Reset afterwards. Vinted has no scheduled sale tool, so you must put bundle discounts and bio text back to normal on Tuesday 1 December.

Pro tip: keep listing new items throughout the weekend. Fresh uploads show up in buyers' feeds, and your followers are notified when you list.

Running a Depop Black Friday sale

Depop has a proper discount tool, which makes it the easiest platform to run a timed sale.

  1. Bulk discount: My Depop → Bulk actions → Discount. Pick items or Select all, and set anything from 5% to 95% off. Buyers see the sale price next to the original.
  2. Bundles: My Depop → My account → Sell more. Offer a percentage off 2+ items or cheaper shipping on multiple items.
  3. Offers to likers: send offers to everyone who liked an item. Offers last 14 days.
  4. Boost (optional): Depop charges a 12% fee only if a boosted item sells within 28 days.
  5. End the sale manually. Depop discounts have no end date, so remove them on Tuesday 1 December.

Offers are a big lever on Depop. More than 40% of items sold on Depop go through offers, and Depop's own data shows offers are accepted most often on Sundays and Mondays (Depop newsroom). Send your likers' offers on Sunday 29 November to catch Cyber Monday buyers.

Cyber Monday: the final push

Cyber Monday (30 November 2026) is the last day of your sale window, not a separate event. Use it to convert the buyers who browsed but did not buy.

  • Send final-day offers to watchers, likers and favouriters on Monday morning.
  • Post "last day" messaging on your shop bio and socials.
  • Keep listing. Fresh listings on Monday catch late shoppers.
  • End the sale on time. Leaving discounts running past Monday trains your buyers to wait for the next one.

After the weekend: dispatch and review

The weekend is only profitable if you can dispatch on time. Late dispatch hurts your seller metrics, which hurts your visibility right before Christmas.

  • Batch your packing. Pack and ship in two or three set sessions rather than little and often.
  • Pre-stock packaging. Standard sizes, tape and labels within arm's reach.
  • Review your numbers. Which items sold? Which discount levels worked? Feed this straight into your next round of sourcing.

FAQs

Does Vinted do Black Friday?

No, Vinted does not run an official Black Friday sale or offer a sale button. Individual sellers set their own Black Friday deals using bundle discounts, price drops and offers to members who favourited an item. Price drops alert followers and favouriters, making them the closest thing Vinted has to a sale tool. Reset bundle discounts after the weekend.

When should I list items for Black Friday?

List by Friday 13 November 2026 if you want items in an eBay Sale Event, because eBay requires 14 days at the pre-sale price with no edits. For Vinted and Depop, aim to have stock live by Friday 20 November. That gives listings a week to gather favourites and likes, which you can then target with offers over the weekend.

Why can't I add items to my eBay Black Friday sale?

The most common reason is the 14-day rule. eBay only allows items that have been listed at the same price, with no changes to title, description or postage, for at least 14 days. Items are also blocked if they are in another sale or sitting out the 14-day break after one. You also need an eBay Shop subscription.

How much should I discount for Black Friday as a reseller?

There is no single right figure, but a sensible starting point is to discount based on how long an item has sat unsold:

  • Fresh stock (under 30 days): 0 to 10%, or bundle discounts only
  • Slow stock (30 to 90 days): 15 to 25%
  • Stale stock (90+ days): 30% or more

Check each change with revenue per listing: price × likelihood of selling.

Is Black Friday worth it for small resellers?

Yes, if you plan it. Black Friday is the UK's busiest online shopping day, with £1.16bn spent online in 2025. For small resellers, the real gain is clearing slow stock, collecting cash before December sourcing and catching early gift shoppers. It is not worth it if you discount fresh stock that would sell at full price anyway.

Is Cyber Monday worth it for resellers?

Cyber Monday is worth treating as the final day of your Black Friday sale rather than a separate event. Use it to send last-chance offers to watchers and likers, and to list fresh stock for late shoppers. Ending your sale on Monday night also stops buyers from expecting discounts to run into December.
